Batting Order
Openers : Considering batting department, The No.2 ODI team, India is having one of the best class openers. A variety of opening combinations are available in ODI's. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma being the most successful in the format. But KL Rahul is a handy player in the position. The left hand-right hand combination has created lot of successful opening partnerships in cricket. Sourav Ganguly and Sachin being one of the notable in the list. Shikhar Dhawan is a sure shot in the opening line up and KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma's place will depend on the captains perception. It is difficult to compare the current openers with Sachin- Ganguly or Sachin Sehwag combo. But the vintage players takes advantage in the criteria with their records. Between we shouldn't forgot the winning contributions from Rohit and Dhawan.
Top Order : Captain Virat Kohli is the strength of Indian middle order. He is supported by Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer. Kohli is has already showed his stroke playing capabilities. There we have seen scenarios like, when the openers failed, Kohli has joined hands with the top order batsmen's and given match winning knocks. Compared to former middle order batters, India is having the best in the current scenario. Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, although were brilliant in partnership making, poor run rate was a issue.
Middle Order : Current Indian team is having some experienced players in the middle order. MS Dhoni is capable of aiding the batting order at any situations. Dinesh Karthik has already proved he is an excellent striker against the old ball. Hardik Pandya,Washington Sundar's explosive batting in the final overs aid's in building a huge total. India had better middle order batsmen's in the past. Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Kapil Dev were capable of lifting the team from any difficult situations.
Bowling Order
Fast Bowlers: Considering the bowling department, India is having some decent pacers in the team. Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav,Mohammad Siraj are capable of bowling above 140mph. Mohammad Shami,Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowls above 130mph and are the main wicket takers for the side. Siddharth Kaul, Shardul Thakur haven't gained so much experience in the bowling side. Comparing the current fast bolwers, India team had some greatest pacers in the past. Zaheer Khan, Javagal Sreenath, Kapil Dev are some of them. But comparing the current Indian pacer with other nations, India is having an above average line up.
Spinners : It will not fair to compare Anil Kumble, Harbhajan,Bishen Singh Bedi Singh with the new generation Indian spinners. They have created their own identity in the spin department. Yuzvendra Chahal, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav don't have enough experience playing with the National side. They are yet to give knocks for Indian team. Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Axar Patel will be the best pick in the all round department. They are capable of handle the opponent batsmens with their spins. Also, they have done some match winning knocks from the batting side.
All Rounders and Fielding Department
All-Rounders : Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja are the best performing all rounders in the Indian team. Ashwin, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar are performing well on their day. But India hasn't found a greatest all rounder after Kapil Dev. His presence in the team was boost for both batting and bowling order. Although Yuvraj Singh considered as one of the best, he is mainly considered as the middle order batsmen.
Fielding Department: Currently, Indian team is having some good fielders. Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli are good in their respective fielding positions. Bumrah saves runs in the long field. But India had a bunch of amazing fielders in the team before. Mohammad Kaif, Ajay Jadeja, Robin Singh were the most talented fielders in the ODI format.

Considering behind the stump performance, there was no comparison for MS Dhoni in the position. His unorthodox type wicket keeping has made many crucial dismissals for the team. Speed, Observation, Tricks had been the part of his dismissals. There had some legends for Indian team in the wicket keeping department. Nayan Mongya,Syed Kirmani, Rahul Dravid had decent records in the position. But there is no perfect replacement for Dhoni in the past.
